Chautauqua Lake is the number one most inland fished body of water in the Empire State. From the days of calico bass to monster muskies, Chautauqua's secret is now out and it quickly becoming known as a must stop for many sportsmen. Chautauqua has grown into one of the most important natural treasures in the Empire State.
With over 13,000 acres of prime fishing water,Chautauqua Lake has gained nationally exposure as one of the best muskie fisheries in the Northeast. Small and largemouth bass have called Chautauqua Lake their home since the 1940's and recently have received their share of anglers attention through several national bass tournament trails such as FLW Outdoors' BFW, BASS, ABA, NYSBASS and BASS Weekend Series, just to name a few.
Dunkirk Harbor plays host to the Great Lake of Erie has been rightly named the “Walleye Capital of the Northeast” and also offers some the finest smallmouth bass in the United States. The 50 miles of shoreline two major luanch's/harbors in Chautauqua County-Barcelonia and Dukirk have hosted their share national events such as In-Fisherman's PWT, AmCam, BASS Weekend Series and Master Walleye Curcuit to name a few.
Not to be out done by the larger bodies of the waters near by, Cassadaga Lake offers some the best bass, walleye and pike fishing one will experience.
Finely and Bear Lake offer car top anglers great opportunities to enjoy a relaxing day on the water, while catching everything from panfish to muskies.
With over 20,000 acres of public hunting ground in Chautauqua County and hundreds of small family owned farms, the hunting in the County is nothing short of a sportsmen’s paradise.
Chautauqua County has been in the top three spring turkey producing counties in the State of New York.
Also ranking in the top five whitetail deer producing counties in the State. From the wine country along Lake Erie to the farm rich ground throughout the county, Chautuaqua offers some of the best habitant for whitetail.
The sound of a beagle running a rabbit is a formiluar one in the fall in Chautauqua County. From the deep wood lots to the thick cover grouse are plentiful. With an active stocking pheasant stocking program by both private clubs and the State, Chautauqua County's hidden hunting jewel could be the ring-neck pheasant.
